LEO MUST HEAL AND LIVE...
This dog was found in this terrible condition, in the afternoon of July 15nth, in the island of Poros. The island is located very close to Athens, 1/2 hour by boat, a very touristic and popular destination for people from Athens, and foreigners too. He was extremely abused, he had his skin burned, also big, open , infected sores in his body, pieces of flesh missing from his face, his eyes, his nose, his whole body. The pictures are telling the sad and horrible story..

The rescuers could not believe their eyes,  they were shocked to find out that this was Leo, a happy and social stray, very well known to the people of Poros.

The poor animal was trembling  and sobbing out of fear and pain.... It was obvious that the burns were inflicted by some means of very strong acid, which was poured into the face and body of the dog...They speculate that this was the result of some "punishment" some human monsters wanted to inflict upon this poor dog, for something that he did( or didn't)..,or just a sadistic game of a sick mind..
They are also very worried, because this monster is free among the people of the island, and he represents a danger for people and animals,  and a shame, which is unbearable to take... A deranged person, who ought to be behind bars...

The rescuers tried to get some help from animal  welfare asocciations, local doctors, they even tried to contact a TV channel, they only met with indifference.

So, left with to their own devices, they contacted immediately a vet in Athens, and they tried to follow his instructions, to alleviate the dog's suffering with IV fluids, antibiotics, and some liquid food, with great difficulty. After the first 24 hours, it became obvious that the dog needed intensive care, that they could not offer, so they decided to transport him to a clinic in Athens, as soon as possible. The rescuers protest against the "person/s" who are allowed to torture, and to inflict this unimaginable cruelty against a defenseless animal.

I will add that the friend who watched the Mega footage today, told me that the vet who gave the interview, said that there's a great possibility that the dog is out of danger... Please feel free to circulate and use this at will , this monstrosity must come out in the open, loud and clear..

Its a shame, and I am deeply appalled, and feel sorry once more that I am a Greek...

Regards, Tina

(Thankfully Leo will in due course recover from his horrible injuries, but the sadist who inflicted them has not been identified. We
(GAR) have offered a reward, if those involved decide it may persuade somebody to talk, but we know from the case of the hanged dogs on Kos that people are not willing to name perpetrators of animal cruelty, even when their identity is known - for fear of reprisal).
